Men’s Rights Reddit, and several Men’s Rights Facebook Pages were on fire today after the release of a video of a February 15th incident in Moore, Oklahoma showing multiple police officers swarming over Luis Rodriguez, age 44, throwing him to the ground, macing him, holding him down, and cuffing him. He died shortly after onslaught. While results of the autopsy are still pending it is assumed that he died as a result of the attack.
The police had been called in on a “domestic disturbance” because his wife, Nair Rodriguez, had hit her daughter, according to multiple news sources.
Warning: the following video, released by the Rodriguez family lawyer will probably be considered extremely disturbing to most observers:
Ms. Rodriguez, who shot the video, is later heard screaming and asking if Rodriguez is dead as he is placed on a stretcher.
“He was not involved in the disturbance. However, when police came, they focused their attention on Luis. Taking him face down onto the pavement, pepper-spraying his mouth, nose and eyes and putting the weight of five grown men on top of him, and then handcuffing him as he was unconscious or already dead,”said Michael Brooks-Jimenez, a lawyer representing the Rodriguez family, in a statement during a press conference in which the cell phone video was released.
“This turns my stomach. That the police aren’t providing explicit details about this encounter is unconscionable and should be unacceptable” Said redditor PierceHarlan, assumed to be the same Pierce Harlan of the Community of the Wrongly Accused. “It’s all part of a demented rush-to-judgment mentality that pervades law enforcement. It elevates generalized concerns about safety over liberty and even life, and it assumes criminality based on race, color, and especially gender. Disgusting.”
“Those who gave us VAWA and the Duluth model are culpable for this, and no one should let them forget it” said Dean Esmay, Operations Manager at A Voice for Men. “It’s them who gave us the police training that make them auto-presume guilt on men any time there’s a domestic situation.”
