VATICAN. A FEMEN militant bared her breasts in San Pedro (St. Peter’s) Square in Vatican City on Christmas Day and then snatched the statue of Baby Jesus before being stopped by a member of the constabulary, according to Agence France-Presse, citing eyewitnesses.
In the middle of the square, hidden in the crowd, the young blonde suddenly took off her shirt, skipped the protection fences, and ran to the manger, snatching the statue of Baby Jesus and raising it above her head. On her chest was painted the message “God is woman”[sic].
The incident was caught on video and broadcast by RT.
The incident occurred in the afternoon of December 25, a few hours after the Pope’s Urbi at Orbi blessing.
This is not the first time that FEMEN activists have pulled such stunts in Vatican City’s San Pedro Square.
The FEMEN feminist movement originates in Ukraine, where it started with similar attacks against the Orthodox-Christian Church and then spread throughout Europe, also attacking Catholic symbols, as FEMEN members believe the two denominations are “backwards” when it comes to women’s rights.
