Ryerson University Students to launch men’s issues group in response to U of T protest against Warren Farrell.
“When protesters paraded into a University of Toronto lecture hall where Dr. Warren Farrell was hosting a Men’s Issues Awareness event last December, Sarah Santhosh didn’t see a peaceful protest: she saw “closemindedness” and “lots of hate.””
So starts a short article at theeyeopener.com, written by Olivia McLeod.
In a near perfect example of what appears to be an approaching cultural tipping point, blowback from the hateful activities of gender ideologues at the University of Toronto has resulted in the formation of another men’s issues group at a major university in the Toronto area. This time, it is at Ryerson University, host to Canada’s largest undergraduate business school. Sarah Santhosh, who started the group, has temporarily dubbed it “The Ryerson Association for Equality,” and is seeking ratification for the group at the Ryerson Students Union. (RSU)
I admit I had a slight twinge of concern when first reading what Santhosh had to say about the RSU group’s focus, which was, “mental health, male youth violence, misogyny, as well as gender disadvantages in education, the workplace and custody battles.”
In the comments to the article, though, she made a clarification that was settling.
I misspoke when I listed the issues the group will be addressing. Since this is a group that will be focused on men’s and boys’ issues we will not be discussing misogyny but misandry instead. I apologize for any misunderstanding this may have caused.
Apology accepted.
And this is where it gets even more interesting. I noted in the article that the names of the other two executive members of the group were Argir Argirov and Anjana Rao. Being culturally ignorant on these names I had to do some research to see if I could determine whether they were male or female. It appears that Anjana is a female name, and I was unable to make a determination on Argir.
So it appears that at least two of the three executive officers are female.
Given that there has been much discussion in the MHRM over the years about the practicality and efficacy of women playing key roles in men’s advocacy, it would appear that RSU will serve as a test tube to that effect.
Naturally, from the editorial position of AVFM, an organization that takes the sex blind approach to advocacy, we will support the Ryerson Association for Equality until given a reason to not support it; exactly the same position we take on organizations headed by men.
But of course, the first order of business is to see whether the school will allow the group to form. RSU has a fairly rigorous approval process, and there has already been the predicable male privilege card played by a vice president for “equity.”
Would it make sense to make a straight people center or an able body equity group?
This question was a vacuous stroke from Marwa Hamad, who is apparently unaware that men are a minority at Ryerson University, or, indeed, that the identification of any group says absolutely nothing about whether they have serious under addressed issues.
So, at RSU there is a little bit of UTSU already raring to go. Did we say that 2013 was going to be an interesting year?
I would like to invite AVFM readers to visit the article linked above and offer some words of encouragement on the formation of this new men’s issues group.

Interesting to see the recent surge of female Youtubers, bloggers and now coalitians taking up men’s human rights. The women increasingly putting thier hands up for this advocay appear savvy and genuine.
I know Shrek and other MRAs have been saying for years that we woundn’t get solid traction until more women became serious about fighting this fight with us, and I agree. However I didn’t foresee the current surge of women advocates talking up the cause… there appears to be a significant breach of feminist hegemony taking place… by women.
Here’s to wishing Olivia and the Ryerson Association for Equality (or whatever it is eventually called) good luck in progressing human rights and compassion for males.

Apparently the misandrist bias of gender feminist propaganda is becoming as offensive to sensible women as it has been to sensible men. I’m very glad to see so many sensible people who believe in human rights for all – the only qualification being to be human.
Call me cynical (I am), but it could just be that these women are seeing that their bread is buttered on this side now. Rats jumping from a burning ship, not because they think swimming is good, but because they don’t want to burn with the ship.
I see women distancing themselves from feminism, not because they dislike the ideas behind it (those they keep!) but because of the stigma that the term has acquired.

I hesitate to speak for them, but I think more women are seeing the damaging effects to society, the hypocrisy of the status quo, and the continued removal of personal agency / accountability from women.

Women aren’t stupid. Like most white people of a bygone era, they’ve kept or been silenced too long through shame, threats of violence and bribes of entitlements.
The civil rights movement would have gotten no where without white people taking up the cause.
Even people benefiting from entitlements and injustice STILL know right from wrong. I think most decent women are at a place where they have had ENOUGH.
The civil rights movement AND the women’s movement quickly became tainted with entitlements and injustices of their own, which is the major hesitation of those who know they should be supportive of men’s rights.
It’s why Men’s HUMAN rights MUST prevail, and MUST be the eventual goal.
It’s wonderful to see some focus being given to men’s issues in an educational institution. There’s certainly no shortage of men’s issues that have been chronically neglected as a result of institutionalized misandry in many areas of society, especially academia, IMO.

A Freudinan lapsus (slip)…., or maybe the spelling checker that has changed the “mispelled” misandry word in the only one officially recognized by the word processor, i.e. “misogyny”.

I wish something like this would form here. I just found out that the Greek clubs’ buses, those used for fraternities and sororities, are sexually segregated, with male students being forced to ride in the back. A friend of mine told me he was unhappy with having to ride in the back. Going to college today is all about being controlled by control freaks. That’s why a lot of people work as college faculty members in the first place. They are psychopathic control freaks and academia is where they can spend their lives controlling people.

This article and its comments stopped me, and I thought about what the world be like when men and boys have compassion from society. It was a nice thought that is lingering.

Good points, Dan. I think it is important to watch what happens with this Ryerson group. As Dan has correctly pointed out, it has it’s opponents. Courage to speak the truth go’s against the grain in Canadian schools where they do a good job to stamp that out. The U of T debacle and it’s fallout was the most encouraging sign of life in a Canadian University since I was born. A shock to the system…and it was a blip. It wasn’t the strong actions of men’s rights that was the headline…it was the rabid hate response of the femistasi/nazi which is usually unseen in modern Canada…because the PR campaign and control by feminists up here is pretty tight…so generally no need to upset the facade of innocent, benevolent, puupy, rainbow goodness. The UofT Student Union is a young bunch and they made a tactical error in blowing cover. This upsets the older, more ensconced feminist academics a bit because…they got a good thing going up here and have had the seat and ear of power in this country for a long time. Canada is seen as a fairly stable platform to introduce the new utopia. But, in Canada, avant garde social policy..aka Australia’s domestic violence initiative is best tried out in other countries first. Canada has become a country run by people that don’t like to be the first out of the trench…our real leaders would rather follow. But make no mistake…they would certainly like to think of themselves as the brave new world leaders for sure. So as soon as Sweden or Australia feminists push something crazy and experimental towards evicting men from civilized society…we WILL be right behind. But I digressed…
The higher up the ass of academia one ventures in this country – the less morals or guts anyone has to challenge the hydra of feminism. The way things are comes from the tip top of the ladder. The Ryerson group is dubious. I really hope they are genuine…they will need a lot of guts and a lot of support to survive if they are. They are setting up shop near the womb of the beast that has done much to destroy normal family life in this country.
