Iceland seeks to ban Internet porn

Iceland government, lead by the militant lesbian feminist Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir from the Social Democratic Party (aligned to the Socialist International) is now planning to implement Internet filters, similar to the ones being used in Iran and China, in order to censor Internet porn in the country[1]. Moreover, they also plan to make it illegal for people to use Icelandic credit or debit cards to purchase pay-per-view pornography over the internet.

Interior Minister Ögmundur Jónasson, from the Left Green Movement, says this should be done because the rights of the women that appear in porn are violated and that he also considers the safety of the children that might get access to pornographic content as “a priority.”

He also adds that this is not censorship, saying the following:

We have to be able to discuss a ban on violent pornography, which we all agree has a very harmful effects on young people and can have a clear link to incidences of violent crime.

A problem, though, as there is no link between porn and the incidence of violent crime, except to the degree that study after study after study points to the indisputable fact that increased availability of internet pornography has a strong positive correlation to a decrease in violent crime, rape in particular.

To put it even more bluntly, there is valid concern that the proposed Icelandic measures will result in an increase in rape.

Regardless of how one might feel about pornography, it’s obvious that control over the Internet is the wet dream of almost all governments in recent years, since the Internet is the only place that is still free of censorship and ideological control.

Besides, there’s no mention anywhere, in any news report, about the men that appear in porn. Aren’t their rights also violated?

What’s worse, is that censorship of porn has the synergistic support of many religious radicals who also feel that they have the right to dictate others what they can and cannot watch. This is not the first time when we see feminism and religious radicalism virtually mirroring views regarding sexuality in general, and male sexuality in particular. Feminism and Christianity collude on the view that male sexuality is dirty[3], the same way feminism colludes with Abrahamic religions’ view with regard to porn.

That being said, it is likely for this idea to pass, at least in Iceland – though I would not hold my breath on the UK anytime soon.

To make things worse, the Icelandic government paints this overt authoritarian censorship as “progressive” and “civilized” – just like other governments in Europe have done throughout the last 20 years with their authoritarian bans and regulations – and the population buys their story.

Iceland has a history of this kind of action

In 2010, the Icelandic government banned strip clubs, lap dancing or paying for nudity in restaurants and in 2011, the government also made it illegal for one to print porn or to sell pornographic material. So this is basically an extension of the law to Internet porn.

The fact that Dubai bans lap dancing for Islamic reasons and Iceland did it for feminist reasons describes the best way possible the synergy between two totalitarian ideologies. The end result is the same.

This opens the door wide for scarier things

But the issue goes beyond porn. The moment you let someone have control over the Internet, the possibilities for tyranny are unlimited. China commenced its censorship program attempting to stamp out criticism of the Politburo and the Communist Party and it ended up banning all social media. It was close to banning Google till Google helped them censor material from Chinese citizens.

Iran started its program attempting to prevent non-Islamic positions to be read by the people, and it ended up banning blogspot and wordpress altogether – including, ironically, several thousands Islamic blogs.

So is it going to be different in Iceland? Of course not. Except that more women are likely to be raped.

What will stop the Icelandic government from banning AVfM? They can just say that because this article contains the word “pornography” – it will lead people into temptation. The government is all too happy to “deliver you from evil”.

The same happened in the EU with several attempts to pass legislation that would allegedly help the authorities to catch imaginary pedophiles. Since the laws were rejected, now the European Parliament prepares to spend millions of euros to pay Internet trolls to deal with those criticizing the Maoist-lead European Union[4].

So this is not a slippery slope fallacy. Giving governments’ control over the Internet will eventually degenerate to censorship of everything that the State doesn’t like and frankly, there are a lot of things on the Internet that the State doesn’t like, starting with freedom.

Is this the world in which Icelanders want to live? Is this the world in which any sane person wants to live?

You don’t like porn? Fine, then don’t watch it! You don’t want your children to access porn? Fine, then install a parental control software. You don’t want your children to access porn from their smartphones? Well, there is a technical solution for that, too. Or a better one – don’t buy your children a smartphone. What do they need it for? There are a lot of classical cell phones available on the market that will fulfill the necessity of being in touch with your kid. This way, your kid might actually end up socializing with people instead of living his or her life on social media.

We are heading towards a world where the Ministry of Truth will tell us what opinions we should hold. And, as time goes by, this statement becomes less of a farfetched hypothesis and more of a daily reality.

That adorable little country doesn’t have a 1st Amendent, or freedom of speech declaration – so it’s “cool”.

I’m sorry I had to laugh at the leading Social Democratic Party having an even further left contingent called the Left Green Movement. Wouldn’t want any extremist radical right wing movement to gain any traction – like Nazis or the Tea Party.

At least 20% of Americans fantasize about having such power (like those that read “The Nation”); typically college professors, entertainers and Manhattan elites.

I’m thankful we at least have a balance of powers, although its getting challenged more with each presidency.

    First they take your guns…

Once again, world governments demonstrate their techno-ignorance. People tend to forget that “The Internet” is not one massive global network, but hundreds of thousands, if not millions of independent, dynamically interconnected networks. While this can and often is a double-edged sword, the good news is that there are all sorts of potential workarounds for this attempt at censorship. The Internet, as an integrated functioning concept, has traditionally reacted to censorship attempts like the human body reacts to a virus – by containing and isolating it and working around it (hint: the decentralization of routing tables at layer 3 and 4, even down to the local home network, just might be one solution of the future, one that is already gaining ground. The sheer size, dispersion, and redundancy, on many levels, of the top-level domain controllers is another factor working against censorship). Contrary to what we see and heard in the MSM, such workarounds are already being implemented in places like China and Iran.

Bottom line: for every attempt by governments like Iceland to shut down the information superhighway (to use a somewhat dated term), new roads are being built to provide alternate routes to the traffic.

To the Marxist-feminist junta ruling Iceland, I wish you good luck in maintaining this ban: you’re going to need all of it you can get.

I know exactly what you are talking about since I make my living mostly from IT and telecommunication.
If the situation will become worse, I will eventually write a story about how can anyone, without being an IT engineer, workaround all these non-sense.

However, technically speaking, it is a lot more easy to implement censorship in Iceland than in China or Iran.
One should not forget that Iceland is a remote insular nation. So wireless is excluded, and the cables can be strictly controlled.
In China, it is much more difficult and indeed, though Facebook is forbidden, I have a few Chinese friends on facebook and though blogspot is fobidden in Iran, I have readers from Iran on my blogspot blog.

But Iceland, since it is in island quite far from everyone else, might in fact stand a chance in its attempt.

Never rely on workarounds. Demand the rights straightforward.

Considering the many women who work in the porn industry, the (willing) female pornstars who make crazy money (far more than their male counterparts both on set and especially performing on the road,) the 33% of porn customers(women,) and the decreased rates of rape that resulted from the increased consumption of porn … Iceland must really hate women.

The only way I’d like to see porn change is by adding to it, not eliminating it. It’s missing a lot of awesome elements of sex. The fun, the silliness, the affection, the thrill of overcoming *ahem* ‘problems,’ and (loosely) maintaining the plot after the sex starts.

Scandinavia looks to lead the way for the rest of us. Yikes. *kshhh gooood afternoon, this is your captain speaking. Coming up on the left we’re gonna be catching a glimpse of the Grand Canyon. On the right you will be able to see the Hoover Dam in just a few minutes. We’re flying at an altitude of who gives a heck and our air speed is whoop dee doo miles an hour. A couple little facts here. I’m carrying a Black Label Johnnie Walker, half empty, trying to fill the void created by my loathing of my Hispanic male privilege. Also, the co-pilot is carrying a victim card ready to flash at me any time I say something that conveys that she is under-qualified for the job she was given based on gender quota. Our chief flight attendant instructed me with our new congress-issued flight paths that pretend that all the “sexist” elements of nature don’t exist. All three of us are capable of causing an accident that’ll put a hole in a human body the size of the Grand Canyon which, by the way, is comin’ up on the left side of the plane so just sit back and relax and enjoy the rest of the flight kshhh*

If you buy into the ‘feminine imperative’ arguments then this can quite easily be read as an attempt to block straight men finding sexual release with any other method than sex with women. Keeps us all working for the machine, y’know? gotta buy them girls diamond rings or you’ll never get to see boobs

Oh, and Lucian and feeriker – I think techy guys like you are going to become increasingly essential in fighting tyranny in future. The internet is THE last bastion of free speech, and if governments manage to conquer it then free thought is done for. After a lifetime consuming the material on the internet, it sickens me to think it might one end up as the same whitewashed, bullshit propaganda that’s shoved into our faces every day on the trains and in the newspapers.

    • Laddition

“an attempt to block straight men finding sexual release with any other method than sex with women”

I think that you are exactly right with this.

They have been killing the brand of feminine woman, now the unfeminine sisters are starting to whine that they can’t get a man / can’t get one to commit.

What to do? I mean it cannot possibly be a problem with the women, can it? Got to fix the men, or at least blackmail them to accept the women.

The same thing with marriage. Men not getting married due to the risks? Let’s just declare all cohabitting couples of over two years as de facto married – in retrospect. There should have been demonstrations in the streets, that is an outrage.

“Don’t like pornography? Then don’t watch it.”

    Amen to that man.

Besides, you know how feminists like to claim that there is a wage gap between men and women. Well, when it comes to porn there actually is a wage gap.

Women earn about 5-6 times more than their male colleagues, for the same hours worked. If anyone is being exploited by porn, it’s men.

    • faroefaxi

pleace don’t take this the wrong way but do you have eny proff that women earn more then men in porn. again don’t take it the wrong way but i realy want to see some lnikes that show me so :-). don’t get me wrong i feel where you are coming from but without prof and cold fackts, that info is useless.

      • http://vilo13.blogspot.com/ Lucian Vâlsan

Porn actresses earn 4 times more than porn actors. This is a fact.
Even the feminists and other ideologues admit that.
Gosh, do we really have to cite references for everything?
Just google „gender pay gap in porn” and read.

        Here it is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pornographic_film_actor#Pay_rates

„Most male performers in heterosexual porn are paid less than their female counterparts. Ron Jeremy has commented on the pay scale of women and men in the sex film industry: in 2003 “Girls can easily make 100K-250K per year, plus stuff on the side like strip shows and appearances. The average male makes $40,000 a year.”[21] and in 2008, “The average guy gets $300 to $400 a scene, or $100 to $200 if he’s new. A woman makes $100,000 to $250,000 at the end of the year.”[22] In 2011, the manager of Capri Anderson said, “A contract girl will only shoot for one company, she won’t shoot for anyone else. Most actresses in the adult industry are free agents – they’ll shoot for anyone. Most contract girls make $60,000 a year. In one year, a contract girl will shoot, on average, four movies and each movie takes about two or three weeks to shoot.”[23]

The Los Angeles Times reported that the pay rates for a female actress performing male and female scenes were $700 to $1,000.[24]

Some state that gay male porn generally pays men much more than heterosexual porn. Men who identify themselves as heterosexual but perform in gay pornography are said to do gay-for-pay (notably Wolf Hudson). This means they perform in gay movies only for the paycheck, not because of any personal attraction to men.”

      • Steve_85

Strange how we need to provide proof, yet the often debunked 1-in-4 myth still gets a lot of air time.

For goodness sakes. What a load of puritanical hypocritical feminist BS.
Abolish porn from the net? Yeah right.
And as you point out Lucian who gets to define porn anyway, some misandric politico whack job?

OK, then please also include all the gynocentric imagery that objectifies men as success objects starting with Mills and Boon bodice ripper stories and all those endless war hero movies where the disposable male/s are saving the damsel/s in distress is the central theme.
    It isn’t going to happen.
Folks will simply use proxy servers to get around it if need be.

Hey, fun to read a foreigners perspective on Iceland and feminism in Iceland.

I’ve been following this quite closely. This is a textbook case of feminist lobbying.

First you should understand that the Interior Ministers assistant in the ministry is a radfem that formerly headed the Feminist association of Iceland. Together they have been working actively against men and men’s rights. Both of them are members of the most radical left wing political party in Iceland, Left Green, which is the most anti male political party around here and the only one that doesn’t have a chapter on equality (gender neutral) on their agenda. Rather, they have a chapter on “women’s rights”

This debate started with the government flying the Gonzo Feminist, Gail Dines over here and having a seminar on porn. Here bullshit raised heated debate and I really have to say that I felt that her arguments were successfully refuted. But here’s the interesting part, the feminist collective just kept going, acting like this seminar was a huge success and here we are now. Listening to these radical left wing politicians and radfems seriously thinking about banning porn.

I am however not really worried that they will succeed in their efforts. In about six months time we will have elections and this is the political party that has lost most of it’s voters on this term according too polls. On top of that, the current government is very weak as they really don’t have majority on the parliament anymore.

And contrary to what I read in the comments, Iceland is very technically advanced with well over 90% of the population using the internet and most of them high speed internet.

For those interested, here is Gail Dines on Icelandic National Television: http://youtu.be/n00k8nQaqSI

And just for fun, here is a great Penn & Teller show, War on porn and Gail with a priceless performance: http://youtu.be/Ojq-0418wi4

“do you want a small group of american people who are misogynist, who hate women, who are cruel, to decide the sexuality of men in Iceland”

Who said Iceland isn’t technologically advanced? I sure didn’t. Nor did anyone else in this comment section.

Honestly, this is the whole point of the legislation; pass this, and it will be but five minutes before the bill that states they can “ID and censor known hate sights” will follow right on its heels.

I read 1984, and I always thought that George Orwell facetiously wrote the book with a country like Iceland in mind. Essentially, they are insulated very favorably to keep points of view they don’t like isolated and out of their public’s field of view.

In Orwell’s book, it struck me as odd that there was no outside influence except for the ones the government officials kept blaming for sending in spies; who I bet were actual “citizens” of their own country abusing them.

Good luck Iceland, sounds like you are going to need it. Don’t count on Uncle Sam to send our military to free you. He is too busy trying to do the same over here!

And thus begins the Great Porn Download. Multiple terabytes of porn, sitting safely on external hard drives. Gotta save them all!

    Godspeed Icelanders. Godspeed.

let’s get a world-wide ban on internet censorship in the attempt to preserve everyone’s basic rights, with clauses in every bit of legislation everywhere that just about any attempt to do so would have the one who tried given the same punishment as like treason, or murdering the president. all this in respect to the fact that the internet in the one (and so far only) place where everyone can exercise their rights to speech, religion, press, etc. and everyone gets heard and no one gets more than their feelings hurt (on a public level, cyberstalking and such is more personal)

  • Stephen O’Brian

One other thing strikes me about this article. As sure as eggs are eggs AVFM is putting up stories about the effects of feminism from around the globe which are gradually creating that bigger picture I mentioned on an earlier thread. Good on you Lucian in adding so very much to that process, now with news from Iceland. Great work.

  • gateman

Should such a development occur it would simply drive the porn industry underground and criminalize the majority of it’s citizens.

  • UKMan

They’ll be as successful at banning internet porn as every other nation is at banning internet piracy.

Rather like in the UK, where all the internet service providers like British Telecom were forced to block access to file sharing directory, piratebay. It took all of 30 seconds to learn how to bypass their filters.

As far as snooping on payments via credit card – that particular issue is already being addressed on gambling sites (banned in the USA I believe?). They are switching to de-centralized, peer-to-peer virtual currency like bitcoin.org.

Feminists must love riding on the back of this kind of censorship. I’m sure they’d like to ban the male orgasm if possible.

    • http://vilo13.blogspot.com/ Lucian Vâlsan

Banning male orgasm might soon become a feminist talking point. One should not forget that when it comes to gender, marxism-feminism has followed Orwells 1984 quite closely!

More fundamental and more important than the balance of powers between the three branches of government is the balance of power between the citizenry and the government, itself.

  • http://equalitythroughtruth.blogspot.com/ Jean Valjean

I think this is good news.

The more the feminists try to control men and male sexuality the more men will feel that control and try to resist.

There is nothing more omnipresent in the minds of men than how to gain access to sex. “Sex” being not only the act itself but all of the visual stimulation that leads up to it.

As these feminists politicize male sexuality they will invariably politicize men who want to have sex–and that’s a lot of men.

It seems obvious to me that this is a wonderful opportunity to greatly expand the power and scope of the MHRM.

How many times do men think about sex every hour? If the MHRM/AVfM can attach it’s message to the ban on porn in Iceland that may very well lead to men (in Iceland at least) thinking about AVfM and men’s issues almost as often.

I’m sure we can all see the advantage in that.

    • Steve_85

If we’re all thinking about sex all the time, then who came up with this fancy internet thingy you’re using to post that ridiculously annoying meme?

I know you were just illustrating a point, but I hate that idea with a passion.

      • http://equalitythroughtruth.blogspot.com/ Jean Valjean

I never said we think about sex all the time. I think what it is is that young men particularly think about sex 8 times an hour.

In between that is when we built the internet, created vaccines, steel, skyscrapers, and went to the moon.

That’s just how good we are.

        • Steve_85

8 times an hour? That’s an interestingly specific number. I’d love to know how you came to it.

I debated Dines before. She teaches nearby. She showed up at a radio station with another woman, her sister I think. The host was female, too.

    I knew what to expect.

After letting Gail yammer for a while, it was my turn. I started to comment. She interrupted. I started again. She interrupted again.

I asked the host if she was going to let the interruptions continue. She didn’t answer.

Gail keep yapping away. So I said eff-it and started saying stuff like, “Gail, the problem is you’re a butterball. Ever been to a gym?” and so on.

    I stopped giving a shite.

Outside the studio booth I could see the host’s staff rolling their eyes. Again, I didn’t care. If they weren’t going to play fair, neither was I.

It’s like when I debated Florynce Kennedy, an early NOW founder/member:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florynce_Kennedy

I’d learned by then that most feminists are arrogant a-holes who expect to be pampered ‘cuz they “got cleft.”

    Eff that!

Anyway, the woman thought she’d be clever and rebut one of my statements by saying it sounded like the group I represented attracted guys who “couldn’t get it up.”

I said, “Well, Flo, they could…until they saw a picture of YOU!”

    The moderator laughed out loud.

    Kennedy was a kitten thereafter.

The point is: there is no other way to deal with feminists. Start out politely, sure; then follow their lead.

If they get insulting, fart in their faces (figuratively). If they want to fight, FTSU. And don’t worry about appearing crazy. You will gain the respect of far more people in the audience than you’ll lose.

Forget about trying to charm guests, too. In fact, try to be on shows alone.

Forget about trying to “convert” the host, too. Usually they just want ratings. So give “good show.”

Focus on those in and out of the studio who’ve never heard fembots called to account or heard men defended.

Be ready to walk off shows, too.

Eff ‘em. They need you more than you need them. For every show you leave because the host is an a-hole, you’ll be invited on 10 to explain what happened.

Most “leaders” of men’s groups are clueless when it comes to media. Plus they’re often more interested in appearing “nice” than being effective. It shows in the failure to form large, NOW-class groups.

I’m certainly not advocating rudeness. Just saying you don’t have to, and shouldn’t, put up with shite.

For example, if a fembot ever said I had a small dick, I’d say, “Interesting conjecture, coming from a woman whose vagina….

…is stamped, ‘Property of NFL.’ ”

    or

    …has been re-tread a dozen times.”

    or

…is called Venus because it attracts and traps flies.”

    or

    …is called Gowanus Canal.”

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gowanus_Canal

    or

    “…can store multiple beach balls.”

    And so on.

Look, the only way men are going to be treated equally is for Muffin to get knocked off her pedestal.

    Figuratively, of course. :>)

Staying polite after being slapped just encourages bullies. It lets feminism metastasize. So stop it. Fight back.

    Do it!

    • http://vilo13.blogspot.com/ Lucian Vâlsan

I would up-vote your comment at least 300 times if it were possible.

This is the kind of message I promote face-to-face to other men: talk back to them, never let them get away with bullshit remarks and always stand your ground for what is right.

I admire your restraint sir. I would have literally, ahem, farted in their faces.

I also like Lucien would upvote your comment 300 times if possible.

“Most “leaders” of men’s groups are clueless when it comes to media. Plus they’re often more interested in appearing “nice” than being effective. It shows in the failure to form large, NOW-class groups.”
—well said, keep driving it home Mr. Sides.

I have often said that, like it or not, we are going to have to make the women in our lives cry. Not until we learn this valuable lesson will we men start to make serious inroads for justice for men and boys. They will cry not because we are being mean, but because they know we are right and are starting to place that as a priority rather than obsessing over their feelings. In that way, “all” women (and our desire to please them) are holding us men back. We need to shelve it. Do whatever it takes to win, short of violence, that is.

“The point is: there is no other way to deal with feminists.”
—HOW TRUE! It is the only speak they understand.

      KUDOS to you.

Icelandic men need to stand up and say “You’ll have to pry my porn from my cold, dead, but well moisturized hands.

This is actually a self-fulfilling prophecy. Feminists think all men are rapists, they ban porn, now we have a population of sexually repressed men ready to explode. The incidences of rape rise, proving the feminists right (at least in their own mind) that all men are rapists. I feel so sorry for those men.

    • Steveyp333

yeh man. sexually repressed men is a reaaaaaaally bad thing to have in your culture.

im sure we’re all familiar with what happens when religions do it… everyone starts raping kids and suicide bombing.

So why cant we just jack off to healthy, normal sexual images and have done with it? trying to make men feel pathological guilt for the most basic of biological urges is BOUND to create insanity, instability and violence. I am not justifying any of those things but come on!!

      • Kimski

“So why cant we just jack off to healthy, normal sexual images and have done with it?”

Because sexually repressed males are easier to control, and this comes across as a control-issue. Nothing more.

It’s also another great example of feminists forcing more of a thing that doesn’t work upon someone it’s not going to work with.

When the repercussions sets in, they’ll be able to point their fingers and go: ‘See, men are just like we said!’
That should make it so much easier to get their hands on additional funding, to set up more things that doesn’t work for anyone.

I also personally strongly suspect that’s the limit of ingenuity they can muster, to deal with the overall decline in marriages in the west.
Why marry a cow, if you can get the milk for free?

        • Sting Chameleon

If you repress men sexually and have complete control of the only legally sanctioned sexual release outlet, you have the One Ring to rule them all.

Iceland’s not as free as they’d like us to believe:

Well of course her arguments are a load of crap. Here’s some interesting thought on internet porn:

Banning something is always a bad idea if the only possible victem is the person doing the act. I would rather have them discourage people to endulge in internet porn, not ban it though. Even for the fact i’d simply prefer to know someone is doing something more constructive.

What would be asking for a ban is feminism. It is the only phenomanon mentioned in this article that imposes negative consequences on others.

The feminist mindset, complete with its obliviousness to censorship WILL make it to the UK and beyond…even to the USA in time. Mark that word!

The longer our duped population remains immersed into a pathetic trap developed to take their minds (and votes) away from them, the easier it will be to have Iceland-mentality in USA.

Hillary Clinton, our next president, will help make Iceland the rule in the USA too. She is a 70’s style feminist, complete with “hate men” branded upon her forehead.

No wonder no one bothers to ask “What about the men in porn; are their rights being infringed?” The reason the answer is no, is because the same answer is true for women—it is a choice they make to be filmed that way; neither sex is held in bondage, making them behave that way. They both choose.

Nonetheless, “forgetting” to ask the men’s rights question relative to porn, is just another way to demonize male sexuality instead of sincerely trying to understand it.

It is not hard to understand how access to porn material could actually help reduce the number of rapes… because once the men get “release” from watching, they are much less likely to “prey” (for lack of a better word, right now) upon unwilling others. Just commonsense. Besides, attempts to remove abusive, coercive, violence-laced porn has already been a reality, FOR YEARS! But they do not want porn to be successful because it, to them, is seen as “male dominance.” It is their error-laden, patriarchal theory in full swing.

Think I am full of it? WAIT! It is just a matter of time, given the feminist-oblivion mentality, coupled with how many women think in general, then Iceland will be here too sooner than we think. Do nothing…and watch my very words come to pass!

I currently live in China. Both blogspot and wordpress are banned. There appears to have been a recent crackdown; many formerly accessible vpn sites such as ctunnel, and software such as freegate, no longer work reliably, if at all.
